We implemented Bonzai at our organization and it has changed the way we work with and perceive SharePoint. The team was great to work with and the product is outstanding in its features and capabilities. Would highly recommend if you are looking to build a great solution on SharePoint without all the headaches of doing a custom build.
I think the thing with Bonzai is that you need to know exactly what you want and will want in the future from SharePoint before deciding on this product. I have both good and not so good things to say about it. The good: the people at Bonzai/Dynamic Owl were very professional and honest. Their product is very slick looking and good for a basic, non-complicated intranet. It is also responsive now and they are continuing to work on new features consistently.
The not so good were things such as the all of the code being hosted on a CDN that you could not touch. Meaning, you could do almost no visual or functional customizations to it (JavaScript or CSS). This is a huge block for people that want to take advantage of all of what SharePoint can do because there are only a few basic site templates to choose from with this product. They did not support language translations or multi-lingual sites at all but they said they will be adding this in the future. Mostly, the cost was $$$$. We were quoted $30,000 USD ANNUALLY for just the use of their software and I think that had a 1,000 user limit before the price kicked up). PLUS a per user fee on top of this (which I think was $5-$7 per person). In the end, we found the cost was too high and the functionality was too limited.
I am not saying they have a bad product, I am just saying please think of everything you might want to do with SharePoint over the next few years before you contact them and ask specifically about everything so you know if this product will be right for your organization.
